What makes HandyChargers better than others?

There's already so many EV chargers on the market it's difficult to decide what is best for your situation.

Without getting too technical, we explain 10 key differences between HandyChargers and others.

1. We don't have a wide range of charger options. In fact, we have just 1 model. We do this so we can be experts on the equipment we provide and so we know every single component is of a high quality, rather than having a limited understanding of a large number of chargers, many that may not even be designed by the company selling them.

2. UK Government OZEV Approved - available to view here. Although chargers sold and installed in the UK need to adhere to certain safety and reliability standards, also being on the OZEV (Office for Zero Emissions Vehicles) Approved list ensures extremely high manufacturing standards have been met.

3. Designed in the UK. HandyCharge Limited is a UK company, entirely owned and operated right here in the UK. Our charger and software has been designed here in the United Kingdom and we pay all our taxes here in the UK, no funny business.

4. O-PEN Protection built in. The main benefit of this is it means no earth rod is required to be installed at each HandyCharger, keeping installations tidy and users safe.

5. Dynamic Load Balancing as standard. This ensures the devices inside the building are always going to work just fine. Turning on the kettle and the hair dryer while charging a car at a log cabin? No problem. This also splits the available power fairly between cars, when more than one is charging at the same time.

6. Twin cables attached. As well as allowing for two electric vehicles to be charged at the same time, having cables instead of sockets means no more hunting in the boot for a cable. It means less time taken to start charging, and as the cables are 5 metres long it means no crazy parking is required to get close enough to the charger.

More seriously, we know one of the most common frustrations among EV drivers is getting their own cable 'locked' in a public charger, especially if they are in a rush. As it is always possible to disconnect the cable from the car side, this serious annoyance does not occur with HandyChargers.

7. Sleek, subtle design with no LCD screen to reduce light pollution. The clean, modern design has proven extremely popular with customers. Removing an unnecessary backlit screen from the charger increases reliability as there is one less component part to go wrong, and in a world full of too many screens we don't want to add to that if we can avoid it!

8. 7.4kWh charge speed. Any slower and cars may not complete their charge before they get off and start their journey. Any faster would normally require expensive site upgrades, costly equipment installation and a slow approval from National Grid. HandyChargers can be installed at the vast majority of businesses we visit without any of these challenges, so we feel this is the charging speed 'sweet spot'.

9. 24 hour freephone helpline number on every HandyCharger. While others often also offer this, as we focus on just one charger type we are able to solve the vast majority of issues over the phone.

10. Network agnostic connectivity and no wifi used. This sounds complicated! All this means is we connect to the strongest mobile signal available when charging takes place and we never connect to nearby wifi, which could easily be down or disconnected. Collectively this ensures the highest possibility of successful charges taking place.

And a bonus point for good measure! HandyChargers are the easiest to use chargers on the market.

With every single charger you can quickly scan the QR beside the cable to be taken straight to a payment page to complete and begin your charge.

If you have a suitable Roaming Fob this can instead be used for an even quicker start and stop.

We do not hold user data or offer any apps to download.

Just like screens, the world has too many apps, usernames and passwords, thank you very much.

Why is the HandyCharge business proposition better than competitors'?

Again, there is a lot of charge point operators out there, so we would like to explain why we believe HandyCharge has a much more competitive offering than other operators.

1. Quick and simple approval process. When performing a free site visit we check if installations are possible. If you choose to proceed we require a simple form to be electronically signed, an OZEV grant application completed and, if relevant, a Direct Debit mandate. We will happily assist you with this.

2. A dedicated local Agent to speak to from your first meeting right through to the HandyChargers going live. Once they are in operation, EV drivers will contact our 24 hour call centre direct in the event of any issues and you can reach us on 0330 223 7000. Your local Agent will reach out occasionally to make sure you are entirely satisfied.

3. Zero obligation. In addition to a free site visit, if you decide to sign up to HandyCharge and change your mind before your installation takes place, you can easily cancel without losing a penny.

4. No hard sales. Our Agents are incentivised to help businesses that genuinely feel they could benefit from HandyChargers. If we don't believe it is in the best interest of a business to have HandyChargers installed, we won't push it.

5. A really simple offering. We can pay you for electricity used plus a mark-up, or you can take all of the charge income (minus processing fee) and set it to whatever price you like. If you choose the first option there is no ongoing cost. If you choose to take the charge income we bill you a small monthly fee.

6. A low-or-no cost of installation. Installing HandyChargers for just £195 or even for free is market leading.

7. Earn money with every charge that takes place. We offer a market leading 20% mark-up in conjunction with inexpensive installation and servicing fees.

8. Don't worry about charging issues. Drivers call our freephone number so you can focus on running your business.

9. Not owning the equipment. HandyCharger not working? We want to get this fixed quickly, as it is in everyone's interest to have it back up and running as quickly as we can. By not owning HandyChargers you are not out of pocket should a charger develop a fault.

10. HandyCharger experts. With Agents local to you and a standardised range of parts used in any installation, we can fix issues faster than many competitors with wide and complicated charger ranges.
