Frequently asked questions
We like to make things as simple as possible, so here's the steps we go through together:
- we have an initial online Consultation to answer all of your questions, see if your location is suitable for us and see if you would like to have HandyChargers installed at your premises
- next we will request some basic information and photos from you, mainly to do with your meter and preferred installation location
- we require you sign a basic Contract for our services and submit your OZEV application to allow us to book in your Installer
- you will decide what rate you wish to charge your customers for their EV charging - we will guide you on this
Once installation is complete and your system goes live you are able to promote the new service you provide, increasing both your number of customers as well as providing you with a new revenue stream!
We will already have information from you regarding your installation location.
Once you have booked in your HandyCharger install by completing the OZEV application and required documents, we will instruct a local Installer to come out and complete the work.
You will be required to give them a code you received from your OZEV application. We can assist you with the entire journey to make it as smooth as possible for you.
From placing your order to completing install, the typical turnaround time is currently 8 weeks.
Again we keep things simple and totally hands-off for you:
- we collect payment for charges that take place
- we forward your payment for EV charges and your Payout Statement each month
- we provide a 24 hour freephone call centre for EV drivers that have issues charging
- we deal with any software and hardware updates as well as any reported damages
We simply ask that you:
- occasionally glance over your Chargers to ensure they remain tidy and in good condition
- occasionally promote your new green credentials to your customers - we can provide templates to help you increase footfall
We have a mutual vested interest in ensuring your HandyChargers are fully operational and we are only an email or phone call away.
Our focus here is on simplicity and transparency. You payout is calculated as follows:
- the volume of electricity provided to guests during the month
- multiplied by the Government's most recent published average cost of business electricity plus your markup (typically 20%), all plus VAT
As a really simple example if your guests draw 1,000kWh of electricity during the month and the published average cost is 30p per kWh, you receive £300 plus 20% = £360, plus VAT = £432.
If you wish to offer guests reduced rates for charging, you can choose to reduce your standard 20% mark-up on electricity from charges that take place, down to 15%, 10% or 5%.
To ensure fairness, if you choose to reduce this amount we will reduce the price paid by guests by the same percentage.
In practice, this means roughly for every 2p reduction in your profit per kWh of charge, the price paid by guests is reduced by 5p.
If you're in an environment such as an office, where chargers will be mainly used by your colleagues and clients, as opposed to your customers, you won't want them to pay a premium every time they come to work and charge up.
So we have created the option for you to choose what price you would like to charge - it can allow you to profit, cover costs of electricity, or even offer discounted or free charges. And we can help you choose what price is right for you.
You receive 100% of the income from charges that take place (minus the card processing fee of around 1%) and we still take care of everything for you.
This service is currently starts from just £9.50 per twin cable charger installed and we're so confident in our service there is zero minimum term commitment - you are free to leave any time if you're not entirely satisfied.
You can also add in a different price bracket - perfect if some company directors or important clients are entitled to special company benefits!
Life happens and things go wrong and get broke, but we have a mutual interest to get your HandyCharger back online as soon as we can.
Subject to fair use policy, we provide unlimited free replacement parts as long as we continue to provide our service to you. We simply require you to pay the call out charge of your local Installer. We arrange this and deduct this fee from your next payout.
HandyChargers come with an industry leading 5 year warranty as standard. In practice for as long as we provide our service to you, we provide free software updates and any necessary hardware upgrades.
(If you choose to leave, OCPP protocol dictates that your HandyCharger can still have services provided to it by another Charge Point Operator.)
Finally, when customers have issues attempting to charge, we provide a 24 hour freephone help line for them to call. This ensures you can get on with running your business, leaving tech support to us.
